In a memorandum to the Governor, 'Centre for Dalit Rights' has demanded that the campaign should be promoted in the same manner as the pulse polio campaign to ensure eradication of the ill practice.

"In the name of untouchability and so called traditional customs, there is a total denial of basic human rights for Dalits and inhuman treatment is meted out to them by dominant caste groups particularly in rural areas," P L Mimroth, chief patron of the organisation, said in the memorandum forwarded yesterday.

He demanded from the governor to ensure social and economic justice to Dalits of the state.
