The first of its kind plant at the station is funded by RITES, a PSU under railways.
Inaugurating the plant, Northern Railway General Manager VK Gupta hoped that such projects could help tap the vast resources of renewable energy while maintaining a better ambiance at stations.
The 25 KW solar plant has been installed with the assistance of BHEL Electronics Division, Bangalore.
RITES Chairman-cum-Managing Director Rajeev Mehrotra also affirmed that the replication of the success of the project on a larger scale will enable the organisation's targeted goal of 10 per cent of its energy requirement through the option of utilising renewable energy sources, while reducing carbon footprint of Indian Railways.
