Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna announced this at a meeting held at Uttarakhand Assembly Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal's residence here to discuss preparations for the foundation stone laying ceremony of Gairsain Vidhan Bhawan slated for January 14.

He asked Chief Secretary Alok Kumar Jain to ensure that details of the programme for the event are finalised early so that they could be sent to the Congress President.

To establish an emotional chord with development starved people of the hill state, Bahuguna had held a meeting of the state's cabinet for the first time in Gairsain in November last year and announced that a Vidhan Bhawan will be built there and at least one session of the House will be held every year.

"A Vidhan Bhawan at Gairsain will give a boost to development activities in the hill areas," the chief minister had said.

The demand for Gairsain as the capital continues to strike an emotional chord with residents, particularly those who live in the mountains.

Situated 272 km from Dehradun, Gairsain is at the centre of the state that has two divisions, Garhwal and Kumaon.

A huge piece of land at Bhararisain (part of Gairsain) has been identified by the expert committee appointed for the purpose as the site for the Vidhan Sabha and related infrastructure including a secretariat, a guest house, a hostel for MLAs and officials.
