Assam Chief Minister SarbanandaSonowal on Monday reviewed the Coronavirus outbreak preparations in the state with senior officials.An official release said, an emergency review meeting on preparation undertaken so far for prevention and control of Coronavirus in the state was chaired by the Chief Minister.The meeting discussed on the various advisories and office memorandums issued by Government of India and also the state government, it added.The Chief Minister directed that the surveillance activities undertaken so far must be continued strictly and all the international travelers alighting in all the airports of Assam shall be mandatorily screened for possible Coronavirus infection."All the layers of administration, cutting across the departments, shall be working together so that a coordinated action can be undertaken at all levels."Since the Coronavirus infection appears to affect predominantly old age people, effort should be taken to sensitise about the necessary steps to ensure the safety of older people in both urban and rural areas," the statement said.The Asha and Anganwadi workers at the grass root level shall meet all the families in their respective areas in the next one week to spread information and advice on "Do's and Don'ts" on Coronavirus infection, it added."Assam Police shall ensure the timely reporting of arrival and departure of foreigners in the state, including the tourists, and shall assist in case of medical needs like isolation or quarantine.Assam police shall also ensure the safety of foreigners while travelling in Assam in view of increased sensitivity towards people from the Coronavirus affected countries," the release said.Sonowal asked the Assam police to maintain tight security along the International Land Ports at Sutarkandi (Karimganj), Darranga (Baksa) and Mancachar (South Salmara district).The railway authority shall ensure that sufficient directives are issued to all the passengers in different stations in the state, he said.They shall also maintain sufficient beds in railway hospitals for isolation or quarantine of needy patients, passengers suspected to be exposed to Coronavirus, he added.Sonowal asked for daily review of the situation by the responsible officials until the crisis situation is over.
