Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has extended his greetings to the people of Assam on the occasion of Bhogali Bihu.
In a message today on the eve of the socio-cultural festival of the state, Sonowal said, "Bhogali Bihu signifies abundance, symbolises intrinsic harmony of the people of Assam with nature.
Moreover, the tradition of setting the Mejis (temporary bamboo and hay structures) on fire so integral to Bhogali Bihu celebrations also symbolises melting away of all evil energies and beginnings of all auspicious forces".
He also said, "let the celebrations of Bhogali Bihu by all cutting across the people of Brahmaputra and Barak Valley, plains and hills strengthen the age old friendship and camaraderie and augurs universal brotherhood among all ethnicities, caste, creed and religion in Assam".
