The company developed and designed PET-CT Scan GE-Discovery IQ, worth Rs nine crore, at its Bengaluru plant after continuous research for the last three to four years and got the approval from authorities to manufacture and market the device in India, Terri Bresenham, President and CEO, GE Healthcare South Asia, told reporters tonight.
"GE's Discovery IQ PET CT is disruptively innovated in India in collaboration with Indian oncologists and academicians with the primary mission of increasing access to affordable cancer care for India," Terri said.
Director of the Institute, P Guhan, said by the use of this technology the hospital would be able to detect cancer at an early stage, individualise the treatment, assess treatment response and detect cancer recurrence.
The Institute claimed that it was the first hospital in the country to install the device.
The scan was inaugurated by Balasubramanian, Chairman, City Union Bank Ltd, in the presence of R Vijayakumar, Managing Trustee, SNR Sons Charitable Trust, which runs the Hospital.
