SOPU and its alliance partners, Students Organisation of India (SOI), Students Federation of India (SFI) and Hindustan Students Association (HSA) romped home victorious on all four seats of president, vice president, secretary and joint secretary, a university spokesman said here after the peaceful polling and counting of votes.
While Satinder Singh Satti (SOPU) got elected as the new president, Sirat Arora (SOPU) won as vice president, HSA's Kuldeep Sheron got elected as secretary and the Joint Secretary's post was bagged by Kanihayha Lal (SOPU).
In the outgoing council, the SOPU had two posts with it and its ally SOI two.
Satti (SOPU) polled 3978 votes as against Panjab University Students Union (PUSU) candidate Abhinav Puri who got 3445 votes.
Sirat Arora (SOPU) got 3434 votes against 3,389 polled by PUSU's Samriti Brar.
The biggest victory margin was by HSA president Sheron who got 3,898 votes as against 3,045 polled by PUSU's Ranjit Singh.

Kanihayha Lal (SOPU) polled 3389 votes as against 3346 by PUSU's Akashdeep Singh.
The alliance of PUSU and National Students Union of India (NSUI) finished poor second on all the four posts.
Meanwhile, Akhi Bhartiya Vidharyati Parishad's (ABVP) presidential candidate Parvesh Chandel could bag only 174 votes while Indian National Students Organisation's (INSO) presidential candidate Rita Ghail could manage only 376 votes.
The total number of votes were 13,723, including maximum 2,581 voters from University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET) and 1,241 from Law Department.
After the SOPU-SOI-SFI-HSA alliance victory, a SOPU member from local DAV college fired in air outside the university campus in jubilation.
