South Africa and China played out a goalless draw to split points in the third round of the first BRICS U-17 tournament at GMC Stadium here today.
The draw takes South Africa tally to four points from three matches while China opened their account having lost their two matches they played earlier.
Both the teams played were cautious at the start and played aggressive as the match progressed in the barren first half. South Africa tried to attack them on counter moves and created couple of chances but could not find the target.
South Africa's Lyle Foster put the ball in the net in the 25th minute but referee Tanmoy Dhar ruled it handball.
China looked composed and came up with threatening moves and had two clear changes but Tao Qianglong could not direct his shots on target.
The South African who looked more cohesive in their attack in the second half met stiff resistance by the rival defence.
With both the teams unable to break the deadlock it was South Africa's Mswati Mayuso whose attempt from the top of the box hit the bar in the 76th minute.
Thereafter South Africa made all attempts to find the elusive goal but the rival defence did well.
