A South African national has been arrested from the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here for allegedly smuggling in cocaine worth Rs 10 crore in international market.
Officials in the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) said their teams apprehended one N Welham from the IGIA yesterday after he landed here in transit from Addis Ababa and was bound for Nepal.
"Based on intelligence inputs Welham was apprehended from the transit area of IGIA and his checked-in baggage was searched which led to the recovery of 2 kilograms of fine quality cocaine. The drug is worth Rs 10 crore in the international market," they said.
They said Welham had collected the contraband from Sao Paulo in Brazil before boarding a flight from Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa.
He was arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychtropic Substances Act (NDPS) and remanded to 14-day judicial custody with NCB.
