The Damodar Valley Corporation cut supply of power to Delhi by 300 MW while the Bawana Power Plant in Delhi could not produce its quota of around 200 MW, an official said.

Supply by Badarpur Thermal Power Station in Delhi also dropped by 95 MW due to a technical snag. The shortfall in supply of around 600 MW of power left many areas in the city without power upto 5 hours.

"There was no power in our area for five hours," Naresh Gupta, a resident of Janakpuri area of West Delhi, said.

Most areas in South Delhi also faced power cuts ranging from 1 to 5 hours. Besides shortfall in power supply, some areas in East and North Delhi also faced power cuts due to local faults in the distribution network.

"It was an extremely difficult situation, as we had to face power cut for long duration in this blistering heat," Manish Agarwal, a resident of Khajuri Khas in East Delhi, said.

The power cuts also affected water supply in many areas, as some of water treatment plants could not function due to outages.
