South Asian Games to be held in Guwahati & Shillong from Feb 6

The Union Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today announced that the 12th South Asian Games will be held in Guwahati and Shillong from February 6 to 16, next year.
The 12th SAG was inordiantely delayed for some unforseen circumstance as it was supposed to be held in 2010.
Sonowal said that around 4000 athletes from South Asian region along with Olympians from these nations will be vying for top honours.
"It is a matter of pride that Assam and Meghalaya will host an international event of this scale for the first time in the region," Sonowal said inaugurating a training workshop for workforce of the Games secretariat here.
The sports minister urged the organizing committee to inculcate the country's traditions of hospitality.
Sonowal thanked the CMs of Assam and Meghalaya for their whole hearted support for the Games and called upon everyone to be hospitable and create an amicable atmosphere for the participants to play and feel at home during the South Asian Games.
Union Secretary (Sports) of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports Rajiv Yadav called upon the workforce to work in a time-bound manner to organize the games in a professional and successful manner.
