Parking rates in south Delhi is set to go up soon, with the South Delhi Municipal Corporation today approving the hike with differential rating to incentivise multi-level-parking over surface parking.
The hike, which was approved by the SDMC House today, however will be notified in November, a senior official of the SDMC said.
According to the new rates, for surface parking, which fall under category 'A' and category 'B', the hourly rate for cars has been increased from Rs 10 to Rs 20, and for two-wheelers from Rs 7 to Rs 10.
As per 24-hour parking facility, the revised rates will cost Rs 100 for cars and Rs 50 for two-wheelers. The revised rates will also make the motorists pay more for the day and night monthly passes.
For multi-level parking, which fall under category 'C', the new hourly rate for cars is Rs 10, and for two-wheelers is Rs 7. As per 24-hour parking facility, the revised rates for this category will cost Rs 60 for cars and Rs 35 for two-wheelers.
"The SDMC House today approved the hike in parking rates, which was cleared by the Standing Committee earlier. But, the idea is to promote multi-level parking over surface parking," he said.
"There weren't many multi-level parking facilities in the city until last few years. The rates earlier for them in our areas, for both two-wheelers and cars, applied on a ten-hour basis," the official said.
Major parking lots in south Delhi are in Greater Kailash -I/II, South Extension-I/II, Lajpat Nagar, Green Park, Hauz Khas, Defence Colony and Vasant Kunj among others.
