South Delhi residents soon to get pet dog licences online

For residents of south Delhi, getting a pet dog licence is set to become easier, as the SDMC is working on making the registration process online soon.
"After making online the process to get birth and death certificates and building plans cleared, we are now working on making online the process to get pet licences also... And, we should positively be able to launch the service in 30-35 days," South Delhi Mayor Subhash Arya told PTI.
Prime properties and plush bungalows and farmhouses are located in south Delhi, like Defence Colony, Lajpat Nagar, Chhatarpur farmhouses, Dwarka, where several residents keep pet dogs.

"The idea is to also make the process, simpler, more transparent and hassle-free and end the licence inspector raj," he said.
South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has four zones -- Central, South, West and Najafgarh, and according to Arya, the most number of pets have been found in the "South Zone".
According to a conservative estimate, there are only about 2,000 pet dogs in the city, which have been registered under the licence. "But, the number is expected to be something like 2 lakh."

"We hope with this online licence system, more and more people will register themselves, as they can do it sitting comfortably in their homes," he said.

On the menace of street dogs in the city, the Mayor said, "the corporation has planned to increase the number of dogs to be sterilised per month from 2000 to 3000."
"We have a veterinary department in all our four zones. We are also working on opening our sterilisation and anti-rabies centre in Dwarka, so that we don't have rely on other agencies and NGO for the job. In that centre, we also plan to open 10 kennels to keep the impounded dogs," he said.
