A South Korean paraglider has died in the tourist town of Pokhara in western Nepal after his parachute failed to open, officials said today.
The 40-year-old tourist, who was paragliding solo without any external help in Pokhara, fell to the ground due to a technical fault with his parachute, said Yogesh Bhattarai, vice-president of Nepal Air Sports Association, Pokhara.
He was seriously injured and rushed to Manipal Hospital, where he was declared dead, Bhattarai said.
The paraglider was not affiliated to any tour operator as he was paragliding on his own, he added.
The accident occurred at 3.30 pm local time.
Pokhara has been a popular destination for air sports including paragliding and ultra-light aircraft flying.
