South Western command observes Infantry Day

The Army's South Western command today marked the Infantry Day at the Jaipur Military station where commander Lt. Gen. Cherish Mathson and other officers paid tributes to martyrs.
Lt. Gen. Mathson conveyed his greetings to all Infantrymen and called upon them to be always ready to defend the nation.
He also urged all ranks of the Infantry to continue to train hard, according to defence spokesperson Lt. Col. Manish Ojha.
The Infantry Dayis commemorated every year on October 27. It was on this day in 1947 that the Independent India launched its first military operations to defend and secureits territory.
The 1st Battalion of the Sikh Regiment (now 4 Mechanised Infantry) was airlifted and launched straight into operations at the Srinagar Airfield in the Kashmir Valley to confront and rollback a nefarious offensive launched by Pakistani invaders in the garb of irregular fighters.
Infantry, which is the largest fighting arm of the Indian Army, has been one of the most important key battle winning factors during all the wars and is also the mainstay in allCounter Insurgency OperationsandInternal Security Duties.
