On 14 April, UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav had met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and submitted 38 letters through which we had demanded Rs one lakh crore for UP's development, SP spokesperson Ram Gopal Yadav told reporters outside Parliament.
"In the last five years, UP has been ignored and has not been given it due. The Centre should compensate for that and help in development of the state. We had gone to request and remind the Government about it,"
The SP delegation also included Jaya Bachchan and Naresh Aggarwal.
Asked if the state government was hopeful of getting its demands fulfilled as it was supporting the UPA at the Centre, Yadav said, "The Prime Minister has assured us that all letters would be studied and as soon as he gets reports on them from respective Ministries, he will sit with the UP Chief minister and MPs to give maximum possible help. This assurance has been given to us."
Another UPA ally Trinamool Congress has also sought a special financial package for West Bengal and a three year moratorium on interest repayment.
