The incident took place last evening when Rana had reached the airport to catch a Jet Airways flight to Dubai.
"As his baggage was passing through the X-ray screening machine, a bullet was detected in his hand baggage. When the bag was checked, a .38 bore cartridge was found in it," a police official said.
When questioned about the bullet, Rana could not produce any valid documents for the ammunition. He also claimed that he did not know that the cartridge was in his bag. A case under relevant section of Arms Act was registered against him, following which he was arrested, the official added.
There have been many cases in the past where passengers have been found carrying arms and ammunition. Many a times it happens that they forget it after keeping it in a bag.
Recently, an New York City Police Department (NYPD) police official was also arrested at the IGI Airport when bullets were found in his baggage.
