Seeking to play a "major role" in government formation at the Centre, SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav today said the party must be ready for Lok Sabha polls any time and win the maximum number of seats in Uttar Pradesh.
"The next Lok Sabha polls are very important. You all should take it seriously as elections could be held any time. SP has to win maximum seats so that it can play a major role in formation of government in Delhi," he said.
He was addressing a meeting of SP district unit chiefs to review preparedness for the Lok Sabha polls due next year.
Yadav said he anticipated the Lok Sabha polls to be held earlier than scheduled and asked party workers to remain prepared.
He said that out of the 80 Lok Sabha seats in the state, candidates have been declared for 71 seats and added that there was need for strengthening booth committees.
Yadav asked party workers to thwart the opposition's propaganda against the SP government in the state and asked them to propagate the good work done by it for welfare of common man.
The meeting decided that programmes should be held in all districts of Uttar Pradesh on April 23 to make the electorate aware of the welfare schemes undertaken by the SP government in the state after Akhilesh Yadav became the Chief Minister last year.
Yadav also warned leaders to shun groupism and remain connected with party workers for better election management.
