Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Friday inaugurated the Space Education Centre and Innovation Hub at the Nagaland Science Centre here.
It is being set up by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Nagaland in collaboration with the National Council of Science Museum, Government of India.
Rio said the centre has the potential to provide a strong foundation for young students and intellectuals.
The chief minister expressed hope that it would produce many innovators.
"In Nagaland, we need to support students with a scientific bent of mind and give them opportunities to hone their skills so that they can come up with solutions that can help solve problems that we face as a society," he said.
Besides students and the scientific community, the centre would also attract tourists and visitors, Rio said.
