Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan conducts and controls the House "like a mother".
This was the observation by some Lok Sabha members from various parties when they met her after the Winter session was adjourned sine die.
Among those who met the Speaker, Saugata Roy and Kalyan Banerjee (both TMC), Rajendra Agrawal (BJP), Bhagwant Mann (AAP) said Mahajan "conducts and controls the House like a mother conducts and controls her home and children", official sources said.
They noted that she has been "tough in disciplining the members, as and when needed, but at the same time fair in allowing the members to raise issues without any bias".
The Speaker "also guides and encourages new and younger members to raise various issues and praises them when they successfully make a good point", the party leaders said.
During the Session, Mahajan consistently refused to suspend the Question Hour, ensuring lesser adjournments and upholding the sanctity of the segment.
