Special Cell bust drug cartel

The Special Cell of Delhi Police today claimed to have busted a drug cartel with the arrest of six persons, including two Afghan nationals, and recovered around 36 kg of fine quality heroin worth Rs 150 crore in the international contraband market.
Police said that drug was smuggled from Afghanistan to India via Pakistan and Delhi-based Afghan nationals were distributing it to various destinations in different parts of the country with the help of an Indian businessman. The heroin was concealed in the soles of ladies sandals to avoid detection.
Those arrested have been identified as Zamir (46) a resident of Turkman Gate, Baba Fakruddin Sheikh, a resident of Seemandhra, Saleem Khan, a resident of Daryaganj and businessman, Mohammad and Sakiba, both Afgan nationals presently residing in Lajpat Nagar and Bhogal area of Delhi and Chandbasha, a resident of Jaipur.
"Police on July 26 received a tip-off that one Zamir was coming towards Bhikaji Cama Place to deliver drug to one Fakruddin. Acting on information, police laid a trap and apprehended the duo and recovered 8 Kg of fine quality heroin from Zamir and 200 gm heroin from Fakruddin," said a senior police officer.
The officer also said that during investigation, Zamir told police that he worked for Salim, a businessman, who recently received a big consignment of drugs through one Afghan national, identified as Mohammad, adding that Fakruddin worked for drug cartel that supplies heroin to various groups in south Indian.
"Later, we arrested Salim and recovered 20 kg of heroin. Salim disclosed that he and his associate Mohammad, an Afghani national presently living in Lajpat Nagar, had received a consignment of 36 kgs of heroin from the contacts of one Muhammad. The heroin had been smuggled from Afghanistan to Pakistan and had entered India through the rail route using the Thar Express train which crosses over from the Munnabao check post in Rajasthan," the officer said.
"Efforts are continuing to identify other members of this cartel as well as the foreign based actors of the larger syndicate. Further investigation is in progress," he added.
