Special Olympics Bharat organises National Athletics C'ship

Around 650 athletes from 26 states are participating in the National Athletics Championship, organised by Special Olympics Bharat, at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, here.
The opening ceremony of the four-day championship was held today at the JLN stadium and a torch run was organised from the New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) headquarter at the Parliament Street.
The ceremony was attended by Jalaj Srivastava, chairman, NDMC, Kartikay Saini, chairman Scottish High International School and advisory trustee Special Olympics Bharat, Air Marshal (Retd) Denzil Keelor, chairman, Special Olympics Bharat, former India cricketer Nikhil Chopra, and Carl Sequeira from WWE.
Athletics is one of the disciplines in which the Indian contingent will participate at the Special Olympics World Summer Games 2015 to be held in Los Angeles. National Championships in various summer sport disciplines have been held in different locations in India.
The medallists at these championships will be selected as probables for the World Summer Games.
At the championship today, preliminary rounds in various Track and Field events were conducted. The Healthy Athlete Programme and Athlete Leadership Programme were the two non-sport events that ran concurrently.
