The special one-day session of Delhi Assembly to discuss safety of women was adjourned for the day today after paying tributes to former President APJ Abdul Kalam and those killed in the Gurdaspur terror attack.
The session of Delhi Assembly to discuss women security will now be held on August 3 to enable members to visit Kalam's residence here to pay their last respects.
As a mark of respect to the departed leader, members of the Assembly observed silence for 30 seconds before the proceedings were adjourned for the day.
As a tribute to the former President, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal named Delhi government's Rs 10 lakh higher education scheme after him.
"He was the Aam Aadmi's president and had contributed in all the fields. During our recent meeting on July 2, he came to the Delhi Secretariat and inspired teachers and principals for setting up model schools.
"He also appreciated Delhi government's move to increase education budget. His death has created a vacuum for us as we were looking for more opportunities to work with him," Kejriwal said while announcing a higher education scheme after him.
The former President died in Shillong yesterday.
Members of the Assembly also condemned the terror attack in Gurdaspur yesterday and paid tributes to security forces and civilians who lost their life in the incident.
