Speed curbs on key Mumbai roads enforced

Traffic Police have enforced speed restrictions for motor vehicles on seven major highways and roads of the metropolis that would come into the effect from midnight tonight.
The motorways were speed curbs have been put in place include Rajiv Gandhi Sea Link, Eastern Freeway, Eastern Express Highway, Sion-Panvel Expressway, Sion-Chembur link Road (SCLR) and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Road. On all these roads, revised speed would range from 40 kmph to 80 kmph.
According to a statement issued by Traffic Police Department, speed restrictions have put in place after reviewing new maximum speed limit and the objective is to prevent danger, obstruction and inconvenience to the public.
The speed limit for vehicles on Rajiv Gandhi Sea Link (also known as Bandra Worli Sea link) shall be 80 Kmph and at connector points to Sea Link gate it shall be 40 Kmph. Police have also said no halting and parking of vehicles would be permitted on the entire stretch.
The speed limit on Eastern Freeway would be 80 kmph and it would be the same on Eastern Express Highway, Western Express Highway, Sion-Panvel Expressway and SCLR.
The maximum speed limit on Netaji Subhas Bose Road has been fixed up to 60 kmph.
According to a senior officer, "the speed restrictions were approved by the Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) and would come into effect from midnight tonight.
