Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister N Chinnarajappa today directed officials to speed up works related to 'Godavari Pushkaram', a mega religious gathering being held here in July, and complete them on time.
Chinnarajappa held a review meeting on preparations for the event and other matters related with East Godavari district with Collector H Arun Kumar and Joint Collector S Satyanarayana, among others, at a Government guest house here.
"Maintain standard in works and complete all Godavari Pushkaram works in time," he directed the officials.
The pushkaram is a festival of River Godavari which occurs once in 12 years. During the event, which takes place on the banks of the revered river, pilgrims from all over the country take a holy dip with the belief they would be relieved of all sins, and perform rituals to departed souls.
The Deputy CM also asked the officials to complete the inquiry into the recent death of two students at an 'anganwadi' (child care centre) at Donturu in Rangampeta mandal. The boys were suspected to have died after consuming contaminated food.
