A special court here today deferred pronouncement of judgment at the last minute in a drug peddling case in which V N Sudhakaran, the disowned foster son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, is an accused after it received a telegram casting aspersions on the judge.
Principal Judge of Special Court for cases under Narcotic Drug and Psychotropic Substances Act Ramamurthy was to deliver the verdict today in the case filed against Sudhakaran for illegally possessing heroin, which was seized from his house in 2001.
When the matter was taken up, the Judge informed that the court had received a telegram in which certain observations have been made against him and he was forwarding the telegram to the Madras High Court seeking further guidance.
Counsel for Sudhakaran said, "No Tom, Dick and Harry can come and just cast aspersions on the court. The court heard the matter in detail and we have immense faith in the court."
The judge said, "We have received a telegram. The contents of that are not true. It is the duty of court to do justice to all parties. Above all, name of the institution should be protected. I have forwarded the telegram to the High Court for its guidance."
The judge adjourned the case to April 29.
The charge sheet of Chennai police said Sudhakaran has been in the habit of using the banned substance and also used to get the narcotics from his friends.
