An sporting event aimed at promoting Sikh culture and tradition and creating awareness against obesity and drug menace will be held in Delhi in December, said the president of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee Sunday.
Inspired by the annual Australian Sikh Games, the three-day-long 'Delhi Sikh Games' will be a mix of traditional and modern sports, including Sikh martial arts, kabaddi, arms twisting, gymnastics and basketball, Manjit Singh GK said.
The event will be held at Thyagraj stadium and other venues on December 22-25.
"The Delhi Sikh Games are being organised to tap the sporting talents of Sikh youth and create awareness against obesity and drug menace besides promoting our culture," he said.
Around 4,000 youths drawn from nearly 100 educational institutions across Delhi-NCR will compete in the games and organisers will sponsor winners for training in Australia, he said.
The local Sikh community in Australia annually holds Sikh Games to promote its culture. The Australian Sikh Games 2019 will be held in Melbourne where athletes from across Australia as well as New Zealand, Singapore and Malaysia will take part.
The Delhi Sikh Games will be hosted by city-based philanthropic organisation Jaap Seva Trust in partnership with DSGMC and Punjabi Academy.
