Sporting score their first win in I-League

Sporting Clube de Goa finally broke their winless run when they blanked Salgaocar FC 2-0 in a Hero I-League match played at Nehru Stadium at Fatorda here today.
Sporting Clube, who were desperate to notch up their first win, scored through Odafe Okolie (12th) and Brendon Fernandes (60th).
Sporting Clube showed a lot of purpose in their attack with Brendon Fernandes looking enterprising in the midfield as he combined well with Anthony Wolfe and Odafe Okolie as they pressed for an early goal. They succeeded in taking the lead in the 12th minute.
Fernandes split the rival defence with a clever high lob for Wolfe who, in turn, sent a low cross for Odafe inside the box. Odafe made no mistake in slotting the ball into the net.
Salgaocar gradually settled down and made inroads into the rival half as they pressed hard in search of the equaliser but met stiff resistance from rival defenders Sandesh Jhingan and Miguel Garcia who kept Darryl Duffy quiet.
Pierre created a chance for Gilbert Oliveira whose feeble shot was collected by rival keeper Ravi Kumar.

Sporting's Alber Gonsalves, Pratesh Shiordkar, Brendon Fernnades combined well as they held edge in the midfield over their rivals in the second half to increase the lead in the 60th minute.
Alber Gonsalves worked his way on the right and got the better of defender Nicolau Colaco and sent a high cross on the right for Brendon Fernandes whose volley was put into his own goal by defender Augustin Fernandes.
Salgaocar went all out in the last quarter of the match but were held by the rival defenders who did everything to deny their opponents from scoring.
