Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi today underscored the importance of sports and said it teaches people develop team spirit and personal discipline.
Sports educates people and teaches them life skills and develops team spirit, hard work and personal discipline, Bedi, herself a former sportswoman said in her message on National Day of Sports.
"Today is the National Day of Sports when we remember the hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand, who put Indian hockey on the world map," she said.
Bedi, a former junior national tennis champion, said said women should take part in sportsso that they could be mentally and physically stronger.
"My life is based on sports. I would nothave become a police officer if I had not been a tennis player. I thank my parents who took me to the tennis ground," she said.
