At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, chana for delivery in May spurted by Rs 25, or 0.46 per cent, to Rs 5,408 per quintal, with an open interest of 17,590 lots.
Likewise, the commodity for delivery in June edged up by Rs 12, or 0.22 per cent, to Rs 5,514 per quintal in 3,370 lots.
Analysts attributed the rise in chana prices to improved demand in the spot market against restricted supplies from producing regions but gains were capped after the government's measures to check rising prices, they said.
