Copper prices moved up by 0.71 per cent to Rs 312.30 per kg in futures trade today on pick up in spot demand even as metal weakened overseas.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in August was up by Rs 2.20 or 0.71 per cent to Rs 312.30 per kg in a business volume of 154 lots.
Metal for delivery in the current month gained Rs 2 or 0.65 per cent to Rs 307.35 per kg in a business turnover of 2,443 lots.
Marketmen attributed the rise in copper futures to a firming trend at the domestic spot market on the back of pick up in industrial demand. However, metal's weakness at the London Metal Exchange amid concern that the global economy is losing strength restricted the gains.
