Zinc futures traded higher by 0.76 per cent to Rs 178.90 per kg today as traders created speculative positions amid uptick in demand in the domestic spot markets and covering-up of short positions.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, zinc for delivery in the current month traded higher by Rs 1.35, or 0.76 per cent, to Rs 178.90 per kg in a business turnover of 423 lots.
Likewise, the metal for delivery in August edged up by Rs 1.30, or 0.73 per cent, to Rs 179.20 per kg in 17 lots.
Marketmen attributed the rise in zinc futures to a firm trend at spot market on pick-up in demand from consuming industries and covering-up of short positions by speculators.
