Spot demand lifts zinc futures

Zinc prices rose by 0.21 per cent to Rs 170.55 per kg in futures trade today as participants enlarged positions amid a firming trend at the spot markets.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, zinc for delivery in June rose by 35 paise, or 0.21 per cent, to Rs 170.55 per kg with a business turnover of 135 lots.
Metal for delivery in the current month was up by 25 paise, or 0.15 per cent, to quote at Rs 170.15 per kg in a turnover of 387 lots.
According to market men, a firming trend at the domestic spot markets following better demand from consuming industries and covering up of short positions in view of monthly expiry, supported the upside in zinc prices in futures trade here.
