Prices of spot sugar rose on increased demand from stockists and bulk consumers at the wholesale sugar market in the national capital today.
However, sugar prices in the millgate segment drifted on ample stocks and fell up to Rs 65 per quintal.
Marketmen said pickup in demand from bulk consumers forced sugar spot prices to rise but heavy selling by mills pulled down sweetener prices.
Sugar spot M-30 and S-30 traded higher at Rs 2,460-2,620 and Rs 2,450-2,610 instead of Rs 2,410-2,580 and Rs 2,400-2,570 per quintal.
However, in the millgate section, sugar Kinnoni and Bulandshahr dropped the most by Rs 65 each to Rs 2,380 and Rs 2,290, followed by Budhana and Thanabhavan by Rs 55 each to Rs 2,320 and Rs 2,310 per quintal.
