In a setback to the main opposition Congress in Telangana, senior leader and former minister Danam Nagender today resigned from the party.
He has sent his resignation letter to the state Congress leadership, party sources said.
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president N Uttam Kumar Reddy went to Nagenders residence this evening, apparently to persuade him to change his decision, but he was not available, Congress sources said.
Nagender will address a press conference tomorrow, sources close to him said.
Nagender, who had served as the president of Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee (GHCC), has been keeping a low profile for some time.
Congress recently appointed Anjan Kumar Yadav as the GHCC president.
Nagender, an influential leader in Hyderabad, had served as a minister during 2009 to 2014.
He, however, lost the 2014 polls.
