Sri Lankan Buddhist nationalist groups today alleged that their Facebook accounts have been blocked due to pressure from "extremists."
Galagodatte Gnanasara, the top monk of BBS or the Forces of Buddhist Power said his account has been blocked.
"This is the work of extremists who have complained against us," Gnanasara said.
Similarly, the account and fan page of Champika Ranawaka, a leading figure of the Heritage Party or JHU have been also blocked by Facebook.
Ranawaka, who is the Minister of Technology and Research, said he was planning to take up the matter with Facebook.
Both BBS and JHU have been accused of hate speech and inflammatory comments against the Muslim minority.
Both groups, however, have denied fanning religious extremism against Muslims through Facebook.
They say that they oppose attempts by extremist Muslim groups to act against national interests.
