Earlier, AAA secretary Maurice R Nicholas had said that the event was cancelled indefinitely as per to the petition received from several former officials of Sri Lanka Athletic Association (SLAA) stating that the SLAA election, which was held early this month, was not free and fair.
However, after a discussion among Nichalos, Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage, SLAA President Major General Daya Ratnayake and National Olympic Committee President Hemasiri Fernando, the AAA allowed Sri Lanka to host the event as previously planned.
During the meeting, Aluthgamage explained the development process related to the Asian Junior Athletic Championship and also forwarded a progress report in this regard.
The Minister also explained that the recently-concluded SLAA election was free and fair.
Nearly 900 sports personnel, including 111 local athletes, and officials from 43 countries are to participate in this event.
Aluthgamage also condemned the disgraceful and shameless behavior of the former officials of the SLAA who sent the petition.
An inquiry regarding the issue will be conducted shortly and necessary action would be taken, the Minister said.
