Sri Lankan court issues arrest warrant against website editor
Press Trust of India Colombo An Interpol arrest warrant was today issued against a news website editor by a Sri Lankan suburban court on contempt of court charges for carrying out stories that reportedly defamed individuals.
Founder and chief editor of Lanka-e-News Sandaruwan Senadheera is now facing contempt of court charges for stories carried on the website.
He is currently believed to be in the UK in exile, having left the country during the regime of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The office from which he was running the website was set on fire during that time.
The warrant came after petitions were filed against him this week.
Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe last week spoke against the editor in parliament charging that he was running stories for money to slander individuals.
