Churu, Bikaner and Jaisalmer in Rajasthan recorded a high of 44.8, 43.2 and 41.2 degree Celsius respectively. The day temperature in other areas ranged from 38 to 40 degree Celsius.
While heat seared parts of the state, pre-monsoon showers continued to occur in parts of Rajasthan with Sojat in Pali recording a maximum of 7 cm rainfall followed by Parbatsar in Nagaur at 4 cm till morning since yesterday.
Delhi too had a humid day with the mercury settling at 39.6 degrees Celsius and humidity level rising to 74 per cent.
Heavy rains occured in north Bengal even as people in Kolkata experienced sweltering heat. The state capital recored a high of 35.9 degree Celsius.
In Punjab and Haryana, Hisar at 42.7 degrees Celsius was the hottest while the mercury settled close to normal in some parts of the twin states.
Among other places in Haryana, Ambala recorded a maximum of 37.4 degrees Celsius, a degree above normal.
In Punjab, Amritsar recorded a high of 39.3 degrees Celsius while Ludhiana and Patiala recorded 37.2 degrees and 38.2 degrees Celsius respectively.
In Odisha, maximum temperature was recorded at Talcher at 37.2 degrees Celsius followed by Angul, Cuttack and Bhubaneswar at 37.1, 37 and 36.5 degrees Celsius respectively. Bhubaneswar recorded a relative humidity of 92 per cent.
In Bihar, light rainfall occured in Gaya and Purnea.
Patna recorded a high of 35.6 degrees Celsius while Gaya, Bhagalpur and Purnea posted 36.4, 34.4 and 32.5 degrees Celsius respectively.
