Stalemate over Vijay-starrer film continues

The stalemate over popular Tamil actor Vijay's latest film "Thalaiva" continued today with no word yet on the date of its release, which has been put off in Tamil Nadu following threats received by some theaters.
The producers and theatre owners, who have refused to screen the film over security concerns, failed to resolve the standoff in a meeting late last night, industry sources said.
Barring Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, the film hit screens in other places yesterday, disappointing Vijay fans in the state several of whom opted to travel to neighbouring states to view it, industry sources said.
Breaking his silence, Vijay in a statement said due to "unavoidable circumstances" the movie was unable to get released in Tamil Nadu.

However, he expressed hope that it would be released soon. "Till that time, I appeal you (his fans) all to remain in calm," he said.
The movie, directed by A Vijay, has Amala Paul as the lead actress and Vijay the hero.
It was expected to get released in at least 500 screens in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry yesterday but ran into trouble with some theatre owners here receiving bomb threats from a little known outfit opposed to the film producers 'Vendhar Movies'.
Besides, the film has also been dragged to court with one Karnan, hailing from Tirunelveli, claiming that it was based on the life of his grandfather S S Kandaswamy and his father S K Ramaswamy, who lived in Dharavi in Mumbai.
