DMK president M K Stalin Wednesday moved the Madras High Court bench here, seeking to quash a defamation case filed against him in a court in Dindigul over his remarks against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami during a public meeting in February.

In his petition, Stalin alleged that the case had been registered on a complaint by the public prosecutor with an ulterior motive and for political reasons.

The matter relates to Stalin's certain remarks attacking Palaniswami at a public meeting on February 15 in Dindigul.

The prosecutor did not take into the account freedom of expression and speech guaranteed in the Constitution, the DMK leader submitted.

Seeking to quash the proceedings, he also sought a direction to dispense with his personal appearance in the lower court.

The petition is likely to come up for hearing this week.
