The rifle was shown in the sci-fi entertainment franchise "Star Trek" series in 1960s in which Shatner played the famous character of Captain Kirk.
The winning bid for the rifle, used in the second pilot episode for the series, came in well over the auction house's USD 50,000 to USD 70,000 estimate, CNN reported.
According to Julien's Auctions, inventor Reuben Klamer created the weapon after NBC asked that the "Star Trek" pilot be "retooled for a more action-packed adventure."
Klamer then got the rifle back while Shatner, as Kirk, got a more familiar pistol used for the rest of the next three seasons, the report said.
