Start pre-nursery classes at gov't primary schools:Himachal CM

Grappling with a flight of students from government to private schools, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today called for introduction of pre-nursery classes in state-run primary schools on lines of private institutions.
At the fourth Governing Council meeting of Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan here, Singh asked officials to improve the quality of primary education.
He asked the department of education to identify primary schools at the level of district headquarters and sub- divisions where pre-nursery classes can be started.
He said the programme should be launched in phases.
The chief minister said there was a need to rationalise the already-functioning primary schools and asked teachers to treat their work as a mission.
Nalagarh SDM Ashutosh Garg showed a presentation on "good practices" to be undertaken by schools during the meeting.

The chief minister also laid the foundation stone of 10 colleges, inaugurated ITI at Delath in Rampur, building of Bharat Scouts and guide at Rewalsar in Mandi district and the residential accommodation of the Directorate of Higher Education through video-conference from the state secretariat.
The foundation stones of colleges laid today include Government Degree College, Jai Nagar, Darlaghat, Tikkar, Jeori, Multhan, Dehra, Haroli, Basdehra, Renuka Ji, Dadahu and Ronhat.
Singh also distributed 'Swachtta Awards' to 34 schools for cleanliness.
