Charging successive state governments with neglecting Jammu, Opposition PDP today said it was only during the three-year tenure of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed that equal treatment was given to the region in development and growth.
"It was only during the three-year tenure of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed that equal treatment was given to Jammu region in the field of development and socio-economic growth," PDP leader Vikramaditya Singh said while addressing a public meeting at Samba district in support of party candidate Sunny Sangral.
"It is really regrettable and unfortunate that successive governments in Jammu and Kashmir have propagated imbalanced and unequal developmental policies after 1947 which resulted into backwardness and marginalisation of Jammu region in socio-economic growth," he said.
"For the last 10 days, I have been travelling in rural and border areas of Jammu region and I am not happy because most of these areas are underdeveloped," he said and pointed out that the common people there have been struggling to get basic amenities like roads, health facilities and drinking water.
It is the result of the lopsided developmental policies being adopted by successive state governments in Jammu and Kashmir, he said.
Vikramaditya said some industries have been set up in Samba area but locals were not given employment as per the policies formulated by the government.

"Locals should be given their share as per the norms established by the government as pre-conditions for setting industry in Jammu and Kashmir," he said.
Terming Samba as the land of warriors and sportsmen, Vikramaditya Singh, grandson of Maharaja Hari Singh, expressed his gratitude towards residents of the district for their love, affection and respect for his family.
"I have desire that like Punjab and Haryana, a comprehensive policy for the sport persons should be formulated in J&K also," he said.
