'State govt trying to develop Bengal as higher education hub'

West Bengal Education minister Partha Chatterjee today said that the state government is trying to develop Bengal as a higher education hub and emphasising on more centres of excellence.
"We are trying to develop Bengal as a hub of higher education treating it as a priority sector," Chatterjee said.
"We are also emphasising on more centres of excellence here," he said at a conclave on education and cultural cooperation among SAARC countries organised by Heritage Business School here.
He said regional strategy for education and promoting south Asian educational cooperation should remain in focus to remove illiteracy in the region.
"Regional strategy on education should remain in focus to remove illiteracy from SAARC region," Chatterjee said.
He also encouraged mutual exchange of students and faculty between SAARC members countries.
Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi, who was also present at the conclave, said the country remained committed to development of education and stressed upon leveraging digital technology to promote e-learning.
"Mobility and career improvement has taken importance over language barriers," he added.
