A state-level function to commemorate the martyrdom day of Karnail Singh -- the first Punjabi martyr of the Goa liberation movement -- will be organised at his native village in Punjab's Ludhiana district on Wednesday.
Chief Minister Amarinder Singh will attend the function at a grain market in Isru village near Khanna town -- around 40 km from Ludhiana city. Several state cabinet ministers, MPs, MLAs and others will attend the function, an official release said.
Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner Pardeep Agrawal today held a review meeting at the grain market and issued necessary directions to the officials, the release said.
The deputy commissioner visited the temporary helipad as well as the statue of Karnail Singh in Isru. He directed the officials to ensure that all necessary arrangements were put into place, it said.
Khanna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dhruv Dahiya informed that the traffic would be diverted on this day in the area, it added.
