Left Front chairman Biman Bose today alleged intimidations, attacks and assaults on LF candidates and activists in at least 15 sub-divisions across West Bengal by ruling Trinamool Congress workers on the first day of filing of nominations for the panchayat polls.
Bose drew the attention of the State Election Commission (SEC) and demanded security to candidates while filing nominations.
"Democratic polling system is facing danger with the SEC failing to take adequate security measures on one hand and the ruling Trinamool Congress aligning with a section of the police to spoil the election on the other," he said in a statement.
LF, he said, had repeatedly pleaded with the SEC for ensuring smooth, peaceful, free and fair panchayat polls.
Bose claimed that LF candidates were today attacked while filing nominations at Bhangar in South 24 Parganas district, Bishnupur, Bankura, Sonamukhi, Taldangra, Jeypore, Kotulpur, Indas and Patrasayer in Bankura and Uluberia in Howrah districts.
"Besides, Front workers were attacked at Dinhaata in Coochbehar and Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas district while campaigning," he said.
