Tripura, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal have reported vandalism of statues of V I Lenin, Periyar E V Ramasamy, B R Ambedkar, Syama Prasad Mookerjee and Jawaharlal Nehru among others, the Rajya Sabha was informed today.
Union Minister of State for Home Hansraj Gangaram Ahir said three states -- Tripura, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal -- have reported vandalisation of statues in the recent past.
"In Tripura, statues of Lenin, Karl Marx and Che Guevara were vandalised. In Tamil Nadu, statues of Periyar and Dr Ambedkar were vandalised. In West Bengal, statues of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee and Jawaharlal Nehru were vandalised," he said in written reply to a question.
The minister said the government of Tripura has reported four cases, in which FIRs have been lodged in all cases and one person has been arrested.
The government of Tamil Nadu has reported three cases, in which FIRs have been lodged in all cases and three persons have been arrested, Ahir said.
The government of West Bengal has reported two cases in which FIRs have been lodged in both cases and seven people have been arrested, he said.
