The West Bengal State Election Commission today said that it was taking appropriate steps for holding election to seven urban local bodies by June 15.
"In pursuant to the Calcutta High Court Order of April 16, 2015, the WBSEC is taking all necessary steps to complete the elections to seven urban local bodies," State Election Commissioner S R Upadhyay told PTI.
The seven bodies are - Asansol Municipal Corporation, Kulti Municipality, Raniganj Municipality, Jamuria Municipality, Bidhannagar Municipality, Rajarhat-Gopalpur Municipality and Bally Municipality, he said.
Holding that the State Election Commission has the primacy in fixing dates of polls, the Calcutta High Court in its April 16 order asked the West Bengal government to conduct polls in seven remaining civic bodies within two months.
The court had ordered the government to start the election process in these seven civic bodies immediately and complete it within two months.
