Forest officials said as the mother elephant appeared to be wild, they tried to chase it away by bursting crackers, but it moved towards to human habitat.
In the melee, the elephant damaged some vehicles, particularly two-wheelers.
The officials tried to pacify it, but later found an elephant calf trying to come out of a water body, a kilometre away.
Efforts are on to guide the calf towards the mother, officials added.
